Made with our own Hearthside Farm Lavender flowers and true lavender essential oil. Our soap has TRUE lavender~lavandula angustifolia~as opposed to lavandin~a hybrid used in the majority of available lavender scented products. With its genuine aromatheraputic properties, our lavender relaxes as it cleanses.
This soap is the homesteader's favourite. Made with locally milled non-GMO cornmeal and ground eggshells from our own Hearthside laying hens, it has an excellent way of scrubbing out that hard~earned dirt at the end of a day in the garden, fields or barn. With a fresh, lemon scent, it will lift your spirit as it lifts the dirt!

Everyone loves the scent of cedar! While this beautiful bar is frequently bought by our customers as a drawer sachet, it is an excellent choice for the bath and is far superior to shaving cream. The addition of dried sage from the Hearthside Herb Garden assures that this soap not only smells wonderful, but has healing properties as well. Sage was held in high regard by the ancients who appreciated it for its many medicinal uses, including its anti-inflammatory action. It is also high in antioxidants, cleanses and purifies. Sage is a regular panacea

This soap is almost as good as a visit to Hearthside Farm. We start with sassafras roots, right from the woods and Foxfire~style, make a good old~fashioned tea, nice and strong. Then we add a proper dose of our rich, nourishing goat's milk and a bit of ground sassafras root. The end result is this woodsy, rustic, anise touched bar. For generations, herbwives have used sassafras to treat common ailments, such as gout and rheumatism. Herbalists today encouarge their clients to use goat's milk soap for its theraputic and healing properties. You just have to try a bar of this most unusual soap!

We have busy on the farm putting in our fall crops. The slightly cooler evenings tend to motivate us more than ever towards the contemplative tasks of weeding and planting. Of course one of our favorite gardening activities is harvesting and we have been busy not just harvesting vegetables and melons, but herbs as well.
Today we gathered massive, showy comfrey, so good for aching joints and sprains, feathery feverfew with its beautiful yellow flowers that mimic tiny chrysanthemums and silvery, fragrant sage. We use sage so very often in the kitchen for culinary purposes, but it is also the very first herb we call upon when one of the family is suffering from a head or chest cold or sore throat. Sage, along with rosemary and other members of the mint family is anti-microbial, anti-inflammitory and anti-hypertensive. It is also a blood cleanser and detoxifier. A cup of sage tea soothes a sore or irritated throat like no lozenge ever could.

Sage is also wonderful for your skin! It nourishes, improves texture and tone and promotes healing.

Thanks to today's gleanings, Farmer Kevin will be making a lovely big batch of our Cedar and Sage soap. Look for it soon at your favorite Tasha's Own location, Old Beach Farmer's Market or swing by the farm to pick it up in person!
