Hearthside Farm's Autumn Homesteading Class

With this event, we hope not only to encourage the spread of agricultural and homesteading knowledge, but also to share the joy of practicing the old skills with our community….

Join us for a day on the farm and beside the hearth.Join us either Saturday, September 15th or 29th from 10 until 5 o'clock for a day full of fun and learning.

We will be meeting all of the animals of the farm and milking the goats so that we will have plenty of this creamy ingredient for our farm fresh cheese. Each student will learn how to make a soft cheese (chevre) seasoned with their choice of cranberries and spice, chives or Italian herbs. We will also learn the art of mozzarella making and create a beautiful pressed cheese.

Experience the basic, yet fulfilling art of beekeeping as we peek into the Hearthside Hives and learn what it really takes to start an apiary and begin harvesting your very own honey!!

We will hand grind our own grain and make earthy, rustic loaves to take home for dinner.

We will tour the fields and forest and learn the art of wildcrafting~hunting for wild edibles and medicinal plants for lunch and our herbal afternoon.

Our herbal afternoon will demonstrate the art of herbal tinctures, teas and balms.

Applesauce is the next treat on which we will be focusing and we will conquer the canner. No one will leave without feeling comfortable with this age-old "art of the kitchen."

Finally, we will prepare and make a fresh, pumpkin pie ~flaky crust and all! You will leave the farm an expert and be ready for all your holiday entertaining!

Cost for the day is $250 and includes a farm to table lunch and covers all supplies.
